There’s something almost hypnotic about “God and Devil.” It’s not just another clash of titans it feels like a philosophical war disguised as a battle chapter. On the surface, you get Loki versus Imu, two absurdly powerful figures trading blows that reshape the battlefield. But underneath all that spectacle is a much heavier theme: control, power, and the cost of both.
The action itself is relentless. Loki swinging Ragnir in hammer form should’ve been a definitive moment, but Imu casually stopping it with that eerie black flame immediately sets the tone this isn’t going to be a straightforward fight. When Imu enlarges himself to match Loki, it becomes less of a battle and more of a statement: he doesn’t just resist power, he mirrors it.

The introduction of the sword Nemesis is easily one of the highlights. The Mihawk parallel is hard to miss, and the precision of that chest strike gives Imu an almost surgical menace. He’s not wild or emotional in combat he’s calculated, deliberate, and terrifyingly composed.
What really elevates the chapter, though, is the dialogue. Imu’s explanation about power, corruption, and pacts feels uncomfortably grounded. It’s not just villain monologuing it sounds like a worldview shaped by experience. His belief that “true happiness comes under domination” is chilling, especially because it’s delivered so calmly. Loki’s defiance, on the other hand, keeps the emotional core intact. He represents resistance, even when outmatched.
Then there’s the Joyboy moment and it completely shifts the atmosphere. That sudden outburst from Imu, breaking his composed demeanor, hints at something deeply personal. The fact that Joyboy is still obscured only makes it more intriguing. It’s one of those scenes that lingers longer than the fight itself.
Visually, the sequence where Loki pins Imu into the Adam Tree and follows up with Thorheim is spectacular. It feels like the kind of attack that should end things and yet, the chapter’s final moment completely flips expectations. Imu smiling, unfazed, and delivering that quiet line: “So you have returned…” It’s unsettling in the best way.
Overall, “God and Devil” is a masterclass in blending high-stakes action with thematic depth. It doesn’t just move the story forward it expands the mythology and raises more questions than it answers. And honestly, that Golden Week break couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Rating: 9/10
A gripping, ominous chapter that leaves you thinking long after the final page.
So, Imu think true happiness can be achived under domination? Damn, dude should visit Marie Geoise dungeons and see if slaves who are completly dominated and dosen't have ANY freedom are happy. Spoiler, they AREN'T. Also why does this sound familiar? I never readed/watched Naruto but I'm plenty sure something similar was in there. Anyway, I got bit scared when I readed that Imu stabed Loki with his sword but I guess he didn't hit anything important if Loki just shrugged that off and continue fighting. Man, Loki really is total beast. And uhh, mayby it wasn't such good idea to send Imu straight into Adam Tree? You know, because now those theories about that tree being "demonified" sounds really real. Hmm, by the end Imu said that Joyboy have "returned". Guess that mean Luffy will be back in action next chapter.
ReplyDeleteThis summary is definitely not a almost definitely not entirely correct translation of what it's trying to summarise imo.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the limited information, it looks like:
Imu grew in size, stabbed Loki.
Stabbing/Cutting is how Imu forms contracts.
Imu explains that his contract works when people have a hunger for power and this hunger for power equates to "Dominion" which I guess is pretty much Domi-Reversi. An explanation of how the devil's contract works, you gain power in exchange for something.
Loki says he won't be dominated by anyone. He proceeds to turn into Nidhogg.
From what I can tell, Imu's come here to try to take over Loki.
Other thing that seems to stand out is Imu's again... acting like he has just seen Nidhogg for the first time in centuries when he literally just got defeated by both. At this point, he will be shocked when he sees Luffy.
I am betting that when Imu transforms, he literally is a different person, he becomes the Devil which would explain why his power just says "Devil" instead of "Devil fruit".
If this is accurate, then the Devil is just seeing Nidhogg for the first time.
So, maybe we might get revelation that Imu and Devilmu are 2 different entities.
Just to also add, if Imu's ability is literally not a fruit, but the actual "Devil"... and he bestowed Powers to the Gorosei... then their abilities also not being called fruits makes sense. It's not a fruit transformation, it's a literal transformation from the Devil himself which would suggest that St. Garling will likely possess a transformation.
When Imu can't handle a situation, he lets the Devil take over perhaps? In a sense, Imu might also be a victim of this Devil.
What I find interesting as well is that the difference between Joyboy vs. Imu is Liberation vs .Dominion (Slavery), Good vs. Evil, God vs. the Devil. Like the Oharan scholars said, the WG hated the Ancient Kingdom because they had a philosophy that the WG opposed. It is easy to understand what the WG's philosophy is because the WG was built on slavery, so it makes sense that an opposition would be one that fought for liberation, freedom, equality, unity, etc.
Lastly, re-reading the Mural, and Jarul's statements, it seems in the 1st and 2nd world, the people who fought were Joyboy and Nidhogg, and it seems that the Devil was able to make this happen which led to their demise. What makes the 3rd world possibly distinct is that... this time, rather than Joyboy and Nidhogg being enemies, they'll actually be working together against him which is why it possible states "this time, they will meet".
Also, if he's been able to force them into being evil in the past, then it makes sense that he'd try to domi-reverse them. Furthermore, with the fact that Ancient Giants and Elbaph have always been a culture that glorified violence and warmongering, it makes sense why both Nika and Nidhogg would fight.
could also be that Imu never Domi-reversed either, but Elbaph being brutes naturally would easily end up fighting Nika, and this worked in Imu's favour. So, his attempt to Domi-Revers could also be thinking that Nidhogg would naturally conform due to hunger for power.
A lot of theorising here on the latter part, but one thing I do feel confident about is Imu is 2 people at the very least with the Devil being a distinctive aspect of this personhood, and his goal is to transform Loki. That's what I am getting out of all of this at least until we get more reliable information. Imu has sparked some life into the story now that he's fully entrenched.
Just eager to see what role Blackbeard will play from here on out.
I wonder to what capacity imu is nerfed right now. We know that he wasn't supposed to leave mary geoise and upon arriving to elbaf he experienced a seemingly painful transformation in which he even spit blood. Looking at the spoilers to me it also sounds like imu is toying/testing loki. As strong as loki is to me it sounds unlikely he is immensely more powerful than a yonko.
ReplyDeleteGolden week and after a comeback its Odas break. Anyway enough complaining about that.
ReplyDeleteImu and joyboy possibliy havng been friends in the past is not unexpected. And no, not cuase of "Naruto similair feelings", but because in a struggle for power there is often someone that betryas. Not to mention so many excuses Imu for being a coward whihc Imu hates, this gives more weight for that. Imus entire philosphy seems to be a messed up way to defy the concept of what Gear 5 stands for. Ultimate freedom and amusment. Maybe Imu jsut felt Joyboy was to reckless and desired no power depsite having it, only wanting thinsg to go as it goes. And ot Imu, that creates chaos and destrouction as if no one dominates then there is "no peace". who can say.
either way, frustrating spoilers as usual. the despair grows ever stronger.
