It could also explain blackbeard, and by extension the davy clan's lineage. The davy clan have a massive stockpile of innate maki. The reason you can't eat two fruits is because maki, like haki, have limits that recharge as the devil fruit consumes and manipulates them and two fruits basically drains you to nothing.
It also could predict luffy's final upgrade. Luffy will eventually be able to utilize his maki in the true abilities of the sun god. Maybe similar to the "omens" imu grants luffy can grant the sun god's own interpretation of these "omens" (but named differently of course). It's the real reason imu fears nika. Sure a colossal haki can weaken him or temporarily mess with his powers and beat his vassals like how joy boy repelled the elders or the knights can easily be beaten. But luffy will have to mix that with the sun god's own omens to do some real damage.
